Taking the Mystery Out of Copyright - Library of Congress
This website, sponsored by the Library of Congress, features an animated, interactive environment that details several key components of copyright. The site covers the benefits of copyrighting, a timeline of major copyright milestones, common copyright laws, and the steps to copyrighting. It is targeted specifically for students and the bright colors and music make it appealing for students through middle school. In addition, because the information is coming from the Library of Congress, you can feel confident that the information is accurate.

You Quote It, You Note It
"You Quote It, You Note It" is an interactive tutorial about plagiarism. The user chooses an animated character and follows them through common pitfalls of the research process, learning how to research and properly document your sources to avoid plagiarism. The program builds in several quiz questions to help make sure students are paying attention. In addition, it also discusses academic dishonesty and different style manuals. Although it's animated, I think this could be a great resource for covering the basics of plagiarism with all secondary students.

Rules In Cyberspace
Sponsored by the Department of Justice, this site covers digital ethics and internet safety. The site features a quiz for students to determine, "Are You a Good Cybercitizen?". It also discusses rules of cyberspace including the importance of maintaining privacy and seeking adult help, and the dangers of hacking computers. I appreciated that this site mentions hacking because many of our students quickily figure out how to navigate around websites and can get themselves into trouble fairly quickly. Although the design of the site may appeal to younger students, the content covered is probably best suited for secondary students.

I was very impressed with this page created by the Lee's Summit School District. It provides links to many different websites for plagiarism, digital ethics, and internet safety. This is a great site to bookmark for future use.
